Textron Systems Corporation, a subsidiary of Textron Inc., announced Dec. 29 that it has been awarded a contract to deliver three Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) to Tantita Security Services.The systems will be delivered in a fully ITAR-free configuration designed to support export to international customers. According to the company, the aircraft will be used to enhance security operations focused on protecting Nigeria’s critical oil and gas infrastructure. The contract also includes options for training and additional aircraft to support planned capability expansion, building on a previous Foreign Military Sale contract awarded to the country.The Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 VTOL UAS features a runway-independent configuration enabled by hybrid quadrotor technology, allowing for vertical takeoff and landing. Textron Systems said the platform’s reliability and operational flexibility make it well-suited for security missions across high-risk operating environments.“The Aerosonde Mk. 4.7 VTOL UAS is a mature, highly reliable, and industry-proven autonomous solution that will provide Tantita Security Services with transformational capability,” said David Phillips, senior vice president of Air, Land and Sea Systems at Textron Systems. He added that the system’s performance and reliability will support expanded efforts to protect infrastructure essential to Nigeria’s security and economic stability.Textron Systems said the award builds on several years of international support for the Aerosonde family of UAS platforms. The Aerosonde systems have accumulated more than 700,000 flight hours in demanding operational environments worldwide and are currently operating aboard more than 10 U.S. Navy ships.The Aerosonde UAS is designed to support multi-mission operations and is compatible with a range of payload configurations. The family of systems includes both VTOL and fixed-wing variants to support diverse operational requirements.
