On January 2nd, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) seeking public comment on uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) security. Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) President and CEO Michael Robbins issued the following statement:"The security risks posed by PRC drones in the U.S. are well-understood by the Department of Commerce and other U.S. government agencies, which have issued many warnings about threats to our national security.The time has come for the U.S. to take reasonable steps to end reliance on unsecure, subsidized technologies from PRC companies and to invest in U.S. and allied products and support security and fair market competition.We applaud the leadership of the Department of Commerce and the Office of Information and Communications Technology and Services (ICTS) in taking a key step to strengthen U.S. supply chain security.
