AUVSI Applauds FY2025 NDAA Support for Autonomy, Uncrewed Systems, Supply Chain Security

Following release of the final language of the FY 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) President and CEO Michael Robbins stated: “AUVSI applauds the leaders of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees for their work on the FY 2025 NDAA, which contains numerous provisions to bolster the integration of uncrewed systems, robotics, and autonomy within the U.S. Department of Defense.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued the final version of its Special Federal Aviation Regulation for powered lift aircraft operations. Representatives from the Association for Uncrewed Systems International (AUVSI) applaud the FAA for issuing the regulation in compliance with Congressionally mandated timelines and making changes from the draft rule to the final rule that ensure the U.S. will maintain global leadership in this critical segment of advanced aviation.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) addressing national security risks posed by certain connected vehicles and components. The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) filed comments in response to the advance NPRM in April 2024, and the NPRM tracks closely with AUVSI’s recommendations.

The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) announced that it has granted Green UAS certification to Hoverfly Technologies’ Spectre Uncrewed Aircraft System. The platform is the first tethered drone to be verified as meeting the highest levels of cybersecurity and the supply chain requirements in the National Defense Authorization Act on either AUVSI’s Green UAS list or the Defense Innovation Unit’s Blue UAS list.

The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) announced the publication of a memo, with validation from the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), with procurement guidance and recommendations for federal government agencies; state, local, and tribal government agencies; public safety agencies; and private industry conducting sensitive missions using drones.

On May 16th, Michael Robbins, President and CEO of the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), testified before the U.S. House of Representatives on how first responders are using drones to aid in public safety missions and emergency response.

On May 15th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2024 by a vote of 387 - 26 following the U.S. Senate’s 88 - 4 passage of the bill last week. The bipartisan legislation reauthorizes the FAA through Fiscal Year 2028 and requires the FAA to issue a notice of proposed rulemaking for UAS operations beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) within four months.
