Insitu, a Boeing company, has been selected to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) services to the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and other U.S. government customers under a contractor-owned, contractor-operated (COCO) model, the company announced May 4, 2026.Under the agreement, Insitu will compete with other approved providers for task orders, offering both its ScanEagle and Integrator unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The dual-platform approach is designed to give government customers flexibility in mission capability, range, endurance and operational profiles.The selection builds on Insitu’s long-standing relationship with U.S. military customers. The company has supported ISR operations for the Navy since 2005 and the Marine Corps since 2004. According to Insitu CEO Diane Rose, the latest contract reflects more than two decades of operational experience incorporated into updated system capabilities.Rose said both platforms feature enhanced autonomy and resilience, allowing them to operate effectively in demanding maritime environments. “The choice between two platforms offers our U.S. government customers mission flexibility,” she said, adding that upgrades were designed to meet evolving ISR requirements.ScanEagle and Integrator both include FLARES vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) technology, which allows operations without sacrificing payload capacity or endurance. The systems also feature extended-range satellite communications, supporting persistent ISR missions in remote or contested areas.Integrator offers missions lasting up to 27.5 hours, while ScanEagle can operate for more than 18 hours. Integrator also has the capability to travel up to 2,000 nautical miles point-to-point or remain on station for approximately 13 hours at a distance of 500 nautical miles before returning to refuel.Insitu’s UAS platforms have been deployed globally, operating from more than 45 classes of ships and land-based sites across six continents. Their versatility supports a wide range of operational environments, including maritime and expeditionary missions.The systems are supported by Insitu’s field services representatives (FSRs), who are responsible for maintenance and operational support. These teams bring extensive experience from deployments with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Marine Corps, as well as more than 35 international military customers.Rose emphasized the role of FSRs in mission success, noting their ability to integrate seamlessly with deployed forces. “Our FSRs are proud to support the U.S. government and look forward to continuing deployments alongside sailors and Marines,” she said.The contract underscores the growing importance of unmanned systems equipped with advanced autonomy and AI-assisted payloads in modern ISR operations, where endurance, adaptability and real-time intelligence are critical to mission effectiveness.
