MatrixSpace is providing enhanced airspace awareness during the U.S. Army-led Flytrap 5.0 counter-drone training exercise taking place May 1–15, 2026, in Lithuania. The company’s participation follows its success in the xTechCounter Strike competition during Operation Flytrap 4.5 in November 2025.Flytrap 5.0 brings together U.S. and U.K. forces to test and validate low-cost, portable counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) technologies. The exercise focuses on addressing rapidly evolving battlefield threats posed by small, low-altitude drones, including first-person-view (FPV) systems and loitering munitions. Media were invited to observe portions of the exercise at the Pabrade Training Area from May 1–11 and on May 15, with key events including a force-on-force exercise May 4–8 and a live-fire exercise May 9–10.As modern threats increasingly involve small, difficult-to-detect unmanned aircraft operating in complex environments, traditional air defense systems face growing challenges. The U.S. Army’s Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense (M-SHORAD) system, known as “SGT Stout,” is designed to protect maneuvering forces from aerial threats, but emerging drone tactics require expanded sensing capabilities.MatrixSpace aims to address this gap with its portable radar systems and artificial intelligence-driven software platform. The company’s systems are designed to detect, track and classify airborne threats in real time, even in environments where communications are limited or electronic warfare is present.The company’s expeditionary radar kits are man-portable and can be deployed in less than 10 minutes, enabling forward-positioned sensing that moves with maneuvering forces. This distributed sensing layer helps extend detection ranges and provides earlier warning, increasing the time available for engagement and improving the effectiveness of the counter-drone response.At the tactical edge, MatrixSpace’s AiEdge processing platform performs local detection, classification and tracking without relying on constant connectivity. At higher command levels, its AiCloud system aggregates data from multiple sensors into a unified operational picture, integrating with existing command-and-control and air defense networks through open application programming interfaces.The platform is designed to support both mobile operations and fixed or semi-fixed positions. Its 360-degree radar systems can provide rapid coverage for critical assets while maintaining mobility for survivability in dynamic environments.Rather than replacing existing air defense systems, MatrixSpace technology is intended to enhance them. By delivering earlier detection and improved situational awareness, the system increases reaction time, strengthens survivability and improves overall mission effectiveness for M-SHORAD units.MatrixSpace focuses on transforming low-altitude airspace awareness through AI-powered sensing and edge-to-cloud intelligence. Its solutions are designed for defense, public safety and infrastructure security applications, enabling organizations to detect and respond to airborne threats in real time.
