Lockheed Martin announced it successfully intercepted a Group 3 one-way attack drone using a Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) launched from its GRIZZLY containerized launcher in the first demonstration of the integrated system.The test, conducted at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, used the company’s Sanctum counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) battle manager and Fortem R-40 radars to detect, track and engage the target drone.According to Lockheed Martin, Sanctum sensors detected and tracked the unmanned aerial vehicle, while the battle management software processed the engagement and directed the GRIZZLY launcher to fire a JAGM missile that neutralized the target.The company said hardware-in-the-loop integration and live-fire testing were completed in less than 45 days, demonstrating what it described as an end-to-end counter-drone solution designed for rapid deployment.Built on an existing prototype architecture, the GRIZZLY launcher is designed to provide a ready-to-fire counter-drone capability without requiring extensive infrastructure or logistical support. The system integrates sensors, battle management software and missile technologies into a containerized platform intended for deployment across multiple operational environments.Lockheed Martin said the system offers distributed sensor coverage through small-footprint radar sites, wireless connectivity between sensors and launch systems, and an eight-round launcher capacity designed to reduce sustainment costs while maintaining operational capability.The company also said the system is capable of integrating radar, battle management software, launch systems and layered effectors through the Sanctum C-UAS architecture to counter Group 1 through Group 4 unmanned aerial vehicle threats. Potential applications include protection of forward operating bases, critical infrastructure and maritime platforms.The JAGM missile’s dual-mode seeker, combining semi-active laser and millimeter-wave radar guidance, provides a counter-drone capability that can be deployed from a multi-missile launcher across different operational domains, according to the company.“The ability to integrate GRIZZLY’s proven launch architecture with Sanctum’s battle manager on an accelerated timeline demonstrates how Lockheed Martin is applying battlefield innovation and cross-program collaboration to rapidly deliver layered defense capabilities to the warfighter,” said Randy Crites, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Advanced Programs. “This test demonstrated a modular, affordable point-defense solution that can be quickly scaled and deployed across multiple domains to counter evolving threats.”Paul Lemmo, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Sensors, Effectors and Mission Systems, said the system can be deployed on land or maritime platforms within days and can operate independently or as part of larger command-and-control networks through the Sanctum mesh network.The demonstration marked the first successful launch of a JAGM missile from the GRIZZLY containerized launcher as part of the Sanctum counter-drone system.
