The Army's Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Project Office has awarded a production contract to AeroVironment for Long Range Reconnaissance systems, procured through the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Marketplace Basic Ordering Agreement.The contract covers AV P550 systems, which provide maneuver battalion commanders with enhanced organic reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition capabilities, increasing situational awareness and standoff from potential threats on the modern battlefield."This award is a testament to the Army's commitment to rapid and agile acquisition," said Col. Danielle Medaglia, project manager for uncrewed aircraft systems. "The UAS Marketplace reduces traditional, lengthy procurement timelines to a few days. This allows us to get the most advanced capabilities into the hands of our soldiers at the speed of relevance, ensuring they are equipped to meet current and future challenges."The procurement marks a step in the modernization of the Army's tactical UAS portfolio, providing ground forces with enhanced capability in complex and contested environments.
