Airbus is showcasing one of Europe’s most comprehensive uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) portfolios at the International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA) in Berlin, highlighting its developments in autonomous flight for defence applications.The company said its portfolio is designed to meet a wide range of customer requirements, from rapid-response drone interceptors and tactical systems to autonomous cargo helicopters and uncrewed collaborative combat aircraft. It also includes high-end intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms intended for long-endurance missions.“Whatever uncrewed or ‘drone’ capability our customers need to strengthen sovereign air power, we deliver,” said Mike Schoellhorn, chief executive officer of Airbus Defence and Space. “Our portfolio ranges from rapid-response drone interceptors and various tactical drones, autonomous cargo helicopters to uncrewed fighter aircraft operating cooperatively with crewed fighter jets. On the other side of the spectrum we have the Eurodrone, our very high payload and very long endurance ISTAR platform. Airbus provides the entire envelope of uncrewed capabilities required for modern multi-domain warfare.”At the event, Airbus highlighted several systems across its portfolio.The U145 is an autonomous, uncrewed version of the H145 helicopter being developed for civil and military missions, including cargo transport, disaster relief, firefighting, surveillance and drone mothership operations.The U760 Ravenstorm and U740 Valkyrie are part of Airbus’ uncrewed collaborative combat aircraft (UCCA) family. Ravenstorm, with a wingspan of 10 meters and length of 13 meters, is designed for multi-domain missions including precision strikes, air-to-air combat support and electronic warfare. Airbus said Ravenstorm is expected to enter service in the early 2030s. The Valkyrie, developed in cooperation with Kratos, is intended to support operational experimentation and initial capabilities for the German Air Force by 2029.Airbus also showcased lighter tactical systems, including the U010 Aliaca, U030 Flexrotor and U050 Capa-X drones. These platforms are designed for surveillance and intelligence missions, with varying payload capacities and endurance ranging from six to more than 12 hours depending on configuration.The U680 Bird of Prey interceptor drone is designed to counter mass aerial threats and engage multiple mid-sized one-way attack drones in a single mission. Airbus said the system demonstrated a successful first flight in March 2026 and is planned for additional testing throughout the year.Central to the portfolio is MARS, Airbus’ AI-supported mission system that enables autonomy across multiple platforms. The system is intended to provide a scalable software backbone for Airbus’ uncrewed systems and is planned for integration with additional platforms, including the Eurodrone.The U950 Eurodrone, currently under development, is designed as a medium-altitude, long-endurance remotely piloted aircraft system providing intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance capabilities. Airbus said the program is progressing toward a planned first flight in 2029.Airbus said its uncrewed systems portfolio is designed to provide interoperable, scalable capabilities for modern multi-domain operations and evolving defence requirements.
