XTI Aerospace Inc. has appointed aviation industry veteran Jonathan G. Ornstein to its board of directors, the company announced Tuesday, signaling a continued focus on growth in the drone and unmanned aircraft systems market.Ornstein’s appointment took effect Feb. 1. He will serve as an independent director and chair the board’s nominating and corporate governance committee, and will also sit on the audit and compensation committees.XTI Aerospace, which trades on Nasdaq under the symbol XTIA, is an aerospace technology company focused on building and scaling its recently acquired subsidiary, Drone Nerds LLC.Ornstein brings more than four decades of experience in the aviation industry, including 25 years as chairman and chief executive officer of Mesa Air Group. During his tenure, he led efforts to scale aviation businesses, execute complex transactions, allocate capital and navigate regulated markets. Mesa Air Group also explored next-generation aviation technologies, including vertical takeoff and landing platforms, and made a strategic investment in XTI that was announced in 2024.“This appointment reflects our strategic orientation toward leadership in the drone and unmanned aircraft systems market,” said Scott Pomeroy, chief executive officer of XTI Aerospace. “That direction will be supported by an increasingly active, disciplined and opportunistic M&amp;A strategy.”Ornstein said XTI is building its platform at a time when unmanned systems are becoming strategically important.“The company’s focus on drones, training, supply chain scale and disciplined M&amp;A, combined with a thoughtful approach to aircraft development financing, creates a strong foundation,” he said.
